In a strategic move to further bolster Nigeria’s fiscal architecture, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated renowned tax policy expert, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, as the Minister of State for Finance, the presidency said on Tuesday.
According to a statement from Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesman, Oyedele is set to replace Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State. This redeployment marks Dr. Uzoka-Anite’s third portfolio since the inception of the Tinubu administration in 2023, and marks a significant shift in the administration’s economic management team.

Until his nomination, the 50-year-old Oyedele served as the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. In that role, he was the primary architect of a massive overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system, aimed at simplifying the tax code and improving the tax-to-GDP ratio.
As Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite transitions to her new role in Budget and National Planning, she leaves behind a legacy of aggressive revenue optimization and modernization within the Finance Ministry.
