NNPC  Fuels Nigeria’s Green Transport Revolution with 35 CNG Bus Handover

To foster sustainable energy and reduced carbon emissions, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) on Monday presented 35 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses to the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG).

The handover ceremony, held at the NNPC Towers in Abuja, underscores NNPC Ltd.’s strategic commitment to deepening gas utilization and fostering a cleaner, more affordable energy future for transportation across Nigeria.

Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, Group CEO of NNPC Ltd., officiated the presentation, with Mr. Michael Oluwagbemi, CEO of Pi-CNG, receiving the fleet.

This collaborative effort signals a decisive move to curb Nigeria’s carbon footprint, bolster energy security, and deliver enduring socio-economic benefits to its citizens.

The deployment of these CNG buses is a tangible outcome of NNPC Ltd.’s dedication to the national gas expansion programme. By prioritizing gas as a primary fuel source for public transportation, the company aims to accelerate the adoption of cleaner energy solutions.

Engr. Ojulari emphasized NNPC Ltd.’s strategic imperative to unlock Nigeria’s vast gas reserves for domestic consumption, aligning with the national agenda to industrialize the country and optimize its abundant gas resources.

Mr. Oluwagbemi, on his part, lauded NNPC Ltd.’s proactive approach and highlighted the critical role of such partnerships in achieving the ambitious goals of the Presidential Initiative on CNG. This milestone is expected to catalyze further investment in gas infrastructure, including the expansion of CNG refueling stations and conversion centers nationwide. It also aims to stimulate local capacity building in the automotive sector for CNG vehicle assembly and retrofitting.
