LAGOS — Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) has officially joined the ranks of Africa’s trillion-naira profit earners, reporting a record-breaking ₦1.21 trillion profit before tax for the financial year ended December 31, 2025.
The audited results, released on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), represent a 24% increase over the ₦986.7 billion recorded in the previous year, signaling a major victory for the pan-African lender’s current transformation strategy.
The group’s bottom line was supported by a massive surge in gross earnings, which climbed 16% to ₦4.88 trillion. This revenue growth trickled down to a profit after tax of ₦904.7 billion, a significant jump from the ₦735.9 billion reported in 2024. These figures underscore the bank’s ability to navigate volatile currency fluctuations and inflationary pressures across its 35-country footprint.
On the balance sheet side, Ecobank’s total assets expanded by 15% to reach ₦49.6 trillion, driven largely by a robust increase in customer deposits which now stand at ₦36.4 trillion.
Investors and analysts have noted the bank’s improved operational efficiency, as the group managed to bring its cost-to-income ratio below 50% for the first time in a decade, a key metric indicating that the bank is generating more revenue at a lower relative cost.
The stellar performance is attributed to the “Growth, Transformation, and Returns” strategy, which focused on digital banking adoption and aggressive expansion in high-interest environments.
By crossing the trillion-naira profit threshold, ETI has solidified its standing as a dominant force in the West African sub-region and the broader continent. Headquartered in Lomé, Togo, the group continues to leverage its massive network to compete with other Tier-1 African banking giants while maintaining representative offices in major global financial hubs including Paris, London, and Dubai.
