Angola Targets Global Capital in $18.6 Billion Domestic Bond Market Opening

Angola is moving to open its $18.6 billion domestic government bond market to international investors to diversify funding sources.

The Finance Minister Vera Daves de Sousa confirmed the strategy during an investor conference in London.

Authorities are currently in discussions with JPMorgan regarding potential inclusion in a developing frontier-market local-currency debt index.

Current rules require central bank approvals and strict local banking arrangements, which have historically limited portfolio inflows.

The government plans to meet international institutional investors in Luanda later this month to streamline market access channels.

This push coincides with Angola’s broader macroeconomic strategy to reduce reliance on hard-currency borrowing and lower long-term debt servicing costs.
