Former CBN deputy Governor Dr. Obiora receives NES highest honors

The Nigerian Economic society (NES) has awarded a 2025 fellowship to Dr Kingsley Obiora former deputy governor central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for his “outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s economic development.” The honor is the highest professional award in the NES coffers.

This is according to a letter seen by ThinkBusiness Africa.

Official ceremony and conferment will take place on Monday, 8th September till the 11th.

Dr. Obiora together with thirteen others which includes the vice president of Nigeria, His Excellency,Kashim Shettima, are set to be conferred the distinguished 2025 fellowship award on Monday.

Together, they’ll join the likes of some honorable fellows who has received the honors in the past including: late Professor Ojetunji Aboyade, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (the director general of World trade Organization), His Royal Majesty Muhammadu Sanusi II (14th Emir of Kano), Professor Charles Soludo (governor of Anambra state) Mr. Tony Elumelu, (founder of U.B.A bank)  Dr. Akinwumi Adesina (former president of African development bank).

The letter reads, “On behalf of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES), I am pleased to inform you that you have been awarded the 2025 Fellowship of the Nigerian Economic Society (FNES), in recognition of your outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s economic development.”

Established in London in 1957, the Nigerian Economic Society is one of the oldest professional associations in Nigeria. It provides a platform for Nigerian economists and professionals in related fields to influence national economic policymaking.

In 2020, Dr. Kingsley Obiora became the youngest person to head Nigeria’s economic policy directorate when he was appointed Deputy Governor in charge of the Economic Policy Directorate of the (CBN).

The 48 years old, brought his economic knowledge and experience from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and has also served as an adviser to three Nigerian Presidents and a CBN Governor.
