The 18th BRICS summit opened Saturday in New Delhi under India’s chairship, addressing severe disruptions across energy markets, global shipping lanes, and international trade.
Key African leaders attending include South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, alongside Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The expanded eleven-member bloc now represents roughly forty percent of global GDP, driving discussions to counter economic fragmentation and champion financial resilience.
Participants face mounting geopolitical pressures, including fallout from Middle East conflicts and volatile crude supplies, complicating consensus on alternative trade currency settlements.
