Ethiopian Airlines Group generated $9.1 billion in revenue during the 2025/26 fiscal year ended July 7, marking a 20% increase from the previous year driven by surging passenger traffic and cargo freight.

The state-run Ethiopia News Agency reported Wednesday that Africa’s largest carrier transported 20.7 million passengers during the 12-month period, representing a 10% year-on-year increase.

Cargo operations expanded significantly, rising 16% to 897,000 metric tons. To support network growth, the airline added nine commercial jets, expanding its international footprint to 150 destinations alongside 25 domestic routes.

Despite top-line expansion, operating costs jumped 25%. Group Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew attributed the pressure to rising jet fuel prices, Middle East geopolitical conflicts, and flight disruptions across select African markets.

The record results come as the state-owned enterprise continues seeking $8.5 billion in external financing for its proposed mega-hub in Bishoftu, aimed at expanding long-term capacity beyond Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.
