TotalEnergies and AMNI Greenlight Offshore Ima Gas Project to Power Nigeria LNG Expansion

TotalEnergies and local partner AMNI have approved a final investment decision for the offshore Ima gas field, targeting first production by 2028.

French energy major TotalEnergies announced the $800 million development on Wednesday, noting that the shallow-water project will feed the Nigeria LNG plant on Bonny Island.

The venture aims to yield a plateau of 350 million cubic feet of gas daily, providing one-third of the feedgas required for the Train 7 expansion.

AMNI holds a majority 60% stake, while TotalEnergies operates the remaining 40%, utilizing a low-emissions design powered entirely by shore electricity.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, hailed the development, describing it as a catalyst for job creation and economic growth.

“For Nigerians, this means work for our engineers, technicians and contractors. It means opportunities for Nigerian businesses, jobs and economic activity in our host communities, and more export earnings for our country.” He noted on X.

This milestone follows TotalEnergies’ 2024 sanction of the Ubeta field, reinforcing a broader industry push to monetize non-associated gas reserves under recent federal fiscal incentives.
