Ghana’s annual inflation rate accelerated for a second consecutive month, rising to 5.2% in September 2026 from 5.0% in August as food price pressures intensified.

Data released Wednesday by the Ghana Statistical Service showed that food inflation picked up to 4.0% from 3.0% in August, driving the overall uptick in headline consumer prices.

In contrast, non-food inflation eased to 6.2% from 6.8%, though services sector inflation remained elevated at 8.3%, propelled by rising costs in hospitality and transport.

The uptick aligns with the Bank of Ghana’s decision late last month to keep its benchmark monetary policy rate steady at 14.0% for a third consecutive meeting.

Central bank officials cited persistent risks from global commodity prices and geopolitical tensions, stressing the need to anchor domestic expectations toward their medium-term target of 8.0%.

Despite the two-month increase, current price growth remains significantly below historical highs, reflecting ongoing macroeconomic stabilization and improved external market buffers
